Film Studie H/W Irreversible 16/06/2010
Throughout the whole film there was a great affect on my feelings. Firstly when the person is beaten by the fire extinguisher mad me feel sad towards the man because it is unfair that he has just had that done towards him. Further more through the film the scene that had the greatest emotional effect on me is the rape scene. This made me feel quite highly mad because no women deserves that done to her because it is just wrong! it also made me feel sad to the women through not doing anything wrong and having such a completly wrong thing done to her. Overall my feelings towards this film were greatly affected in a mad way because mopst things throughout this film mad me angry towards the characters.

Film Studies H/W from 23.3.10
- A set of conventions recognisable, usually through iconography, familiar narrative, mis en scene, actors and style of representation. Also a creative strategy used by film producers to ensure audience identification with a film- a means of trying to predict risk.
- a quote "Genres are flexible, subject to a constant process of change and adaptation, because different audiences will use genre in different ways and at different times its boundaries can never be rigidly defined, and at the same time susceptible to extensive subdivision. (Richard Maltby 1995)
- the key concepts for horror are: Media Languages for this unit you will need to refer to the micro elements, when conducting detailed analysis of sequences; Institutions for this unit you will need to elaborate on the British context of the films, Genre for this unit you will need to a clear understand of what genre is, the codes and conventions of the horror genre, and explain how they are used in the films, Representations for this unit you will need to explain how the horror genre is represented possibly through characters (gender representation) and the narrative, Audiences for this unit you will need to make clear the appeal of the horror genre for audiences, and what their expectations of the genre are, Ideology and Values horror films are known for presenting ideas about society you will have to offer an explanation as to how the case study films do this, Narrative you will have to have knowledge of the typical narrative conventions and narrative structure of horror films. The key convensions are important to the British Film exam because they may ask questions on the exam about the convensions of horror also because they are a key fact to know all of the convensions.
- genre is important because it defines how the film is to affect the viewer and what aspects the viewer is to look for also so that they may compare the differences between other genres such as action and sci-fi.
- genre is identified usually by the tone set by things such as the music, also the mis en scene, setting and all other micro features are used to identify genre
- we can tell that a film is of a horror genre typically by the music and setting. You would be able to tell from the music in a horror film that it is a horror because it is usually dark a misterous. Finally from the setting typically for most horrors it would be set in a dark mesterious area with very little if no people around. But through this day and age not many people stick to the original horror out lines.
- many people find horror apealing because they enjoy the fear factor they may get from the film. They would find this apealing because of the fear factor you recieve it gives you a thrill throughout the film.
